I started this site back in 2008 when being an Edmonton Oilers fan was much easier, sure the Oilers couldn't make the playoffs but with all those young players the future was certainly bright.. right? They had a very exciting kid line with Sam Gagner, Andrew Cogliano, and Robert Nillson along with some very promising young Defensemen in Tom Gilbert and Ladi Smid. I remember the MSM would always talk about how the future was so bright for the Edmonton Oilers with all of the young players they have coming up through the system.
So of course with any losing team I expected there would be some tweaks here and there to turn things around (and by tweaks I mean prongeresk type trades). I found myself searching the google for news and rumors, checking all of the MSM type sites and of course reading a bunch of Oilers blogs and forums to get the latest scoop on who the Oil would add to the team to get back to the playoffs. It could easily take me 30 minutes to an hour just to confirm nothing is happening and thats not really a good situation when your at work so I needed to find a better way. I decided I would need a program that could get all of the Oilers related news for me in one spot so I searched, and I searched, and I searched... then I made one.
Oilerhockey.com was born.
It was really just for me at first and I loved it, saved me so much time. Then I showed some fellow Edmonton Oiler fans and they loved it too.. turns out they were wasting time searching for Oilers news as well so I tweaked the site, made it work better with search engines, learned more about things called PHP, MYSQL, and XML and now thousands of Oilers fans use it to get the latest and greatest.
The site has improved so much from 2008 I can hardly beleive it... wish I could say the same for the Oilers but the team has actually gotten worse since 08... still out of the playoffs. Don't worry though with all that young talent the future sure is bright... we're just one good trade away from the playoffs... right? RIGHT??
