The Edmonton Oilers lost Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals 5-3 to the Dallas Stars on Monday, with Stars’ forward Jason Robertson scoring a hat trick, as well as Roope Hintz and Tyler Seguin producing two assists, respectively.
Oilers’ goaltender Stuart Skinner gave up four goals on 21 shots, a far cry from the one-goal, 22-save performance in Game 2 last Saturday. While he did make some key saves to keep the Oilers in it right to the end, Dallas found ways to put the puck past the Edmonton netminder.
The Stars now lead the series 2-1 with Game 4 Wednesday, and some Oilers’ fans are wondering if it’s worth sitting Skinner for a game, just like the Oilers did in the second round against the Vancouver Canucks. Skinner sat two games, then came back with a vengeance, winning both Game 6 and 7 and helping Edmonton take the series.
On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the performance of the Oilers’ netminder and whether it might be worth going to Calvin Pickard on Wednesday.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Here’s an #AskDFO for you from the chat: “We saw the Oilers do this and they had success with it in Round 2: any chance they go with Calvin Pickard in Game 4?”
Frank Seravalli: Zero.
Tyler Yaremchuk: So you’re not worried about Stuart Skinner?
Frank Seravalli: Nope. I thought that was one of his best game’s in the playoffs, based on quality of chances, and it easily could have been 8-3.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Yep, I agree with that.
Frank Seravalli: The tough part is that on the other end, Jake Oettinger, how many times has he given up three goals?
Tyler Yaremchuk: I think that was the first road game.
Frank Seravalli: That’s tough.
