The Edmonton Oilers are set to face the Dallas Stars in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, meaning there will be some scoring and great plays. We’re here to share our NHL odds series while making an Oilers-Stars Game 5 Prop Bets prediction and pick.
This has been a great series, with the teams splitting the first four games. After the Oilers took the first game, the Stars won the next two before falling in Game 4. Now, we will take a look at a few prop bets and make a prediction for each of them. Specifically, we are looking at three prop bets involving the Oilers.
We will look at Zach Hyman and predict his ability to score a goal. Then, we will look at Connor McDavid, and examine the chances he records a point. Finally, we will give a take on the goals the Oilers will score in this showdown. With that said, let’s take a look at the following prop bets.
Here are the NHL Odds, courtesy of FanDuel.
Zach Hyman to Score a Goal: +125
Connor McDavid to Record 1+ Point: -590
Edmonton Oilers Total Goals Over: 2.5 (-138)
Hyman had a great regular season, scoring 54 goals and 23 assists. Overall, he has always been a goal-scoring machine. The fact that he has always been positioned in front of the net always made him perfect for plucking one into the net whenever McDavid or Leon Draisaitl found him. Likewise, he has also been the centerpiece of a powerplay that remains as dangerous as ever.
Hyman has enhanced that reputation in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. So far, he has netted 13 goals, including four conversions on the powerplay. In fact, he has scored a goal in 9 of 16 games in these playoffs. Because of this, he has given the Oilers a great chance to win every game with his ability to find the back of the net.
While Hyman did not net a goal in Game 4, he still got on the scoresheet with an assist. Ultimately, he is a menace in front of the net and a nightmare for goalie Jake Oettinger as he provides the perfect distraction and screen in front, especially on the powerplay. Consider that Hyman netted a goal and an assist in Game 1, which helped Edmonton win. In fact, Hyman has scored a goal in two of the past three road playoff games. Look for him to find a way to get one in the back of the net.
If you are not as comfortable picking Hyman to score a goal, you can definitely feel at ease picking McDavid to score in some capacity. Amazingly, he has continued to show the entire league why he is the best playmaker in the league. McDavid started the Stanley Cup Playoffs with five assists in Game 1 of the first round against the Los Angeles Kings. Then, he scored a point in each game.
McDavid had an up-and-down series against the Vancouver Canucks. Ultimately, he scored in Game 1 and Game 2. But he did not score at all in Game 3. Then, it happened again in Game 5 and Game 7.
But McDavid bounced back in this series. So far, he has scored in every game except Game 2. McDavid produced three assists in Game 4. Significantly, the Oilers are just better when he produces. Whether it’s passing the puck to Hyman, Leon Draisaitl, or Evan Bouchard, he finds ways to get a point and make other teams pay for their mistakes.
The Oilers have always been a high-scoring team over the years. Substantially, that has continued in this postseason. After scoring 22 goals over five games against the Kings, Edmonton netted 24 goals over seven games against the Canucks. Significantly, both marked averages well over three goals per game.
But the series against the Stars has been slightly different. Initially, they scored three goals in Game 1. Edmonton netted just one in Game 2 before adding three in Game 3. Next, they exploded for five goals, with all coming after initially falling behind 2-0. The Stars are a good team on defense and have a good goalie. Yet, they collapsed due to the intense power of this offense.
The Oilers likely will find a way to score three goals. Overall, their production has been solid, and they have averaged exactly three goals in this series. If they can continue to draw penalties, they will get extra chances on the powerplay.
Aside from a brief stretch against the Canucks, Hyman has been pretty consistent. If the Oilers can get a powerplay, expect him to get a powerplay goal. Likewise, McDavid will find himself on the scoresheet. The Oilers will eventually get three goals because of these two and Draisaitl. If you are not comfortable with all three prop bets, then the McDavid prop is a sure winner. Adding the Hyman prop bet gives you an extra edge. All three are solid for me.
