Connor McDavid is all business as he chases first Stanley Cup

Somehow, the hockey world has yet to see Connor McDavid play in a Stanley Cup Final.

But after eight seasons of coming up short, McDavid, the Edmonton Oilers and their fans will get their chance, as Edmonton clinched a spot in the Final with a 2-1 win on Sunday in Game 6 against the Dallas Stars.

McDavid has been the best player in the NHL since he entered the league in 2016. After getting his feet wet with 48 points in 45 games as a rookie, he rattled off eight glorious regular seasons, finishing with over 100 points in all but the 2019-20 season, which was cut short due to COVID-19.

The Oilers’ captain has won just about every NHL trophy, most of them multiple times. He has led the league in stats and racked up a ridiculous amount of highlight-reel goals, but consistently come up short when it mattered most, in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Until now.

McDavid put his team on his back in the playoffs, especially in this series against Dallas. He leads all skaters with 31 points (five goals, 26 assists) in 18 games and was involved in six of eight Edmonton goals in the four consecutive Oilers wins in the Western Conference Final.

Oh, and he did this in Game 6:

Following the Game 6 win, McDavid was all business, as usual. The 27-year-old will get the chance to play in the Final and has only one goal in mind: winning the Cup.

“We got it done, and that’s all that really matters,” he told NHL.com. “We’ll move on from this one tonight.”

Frank Seravalli: Spending time around this Oilers team, he is all business. There is not one part of him that’s not dialed in and ready to go. From wearing the same suit for three consecutive games and now three consecutive wins, to a goal like that… This is a guy that wasn’t going to be denied. And that’s probably the scariest part for the Florida Panthers. This is the closest the Oilers have been by a wide margin. And now they’ve got an opportunity here to really do something incredible and put their name in the rafters next to some of the legends.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Yes, another banner up at Rogers Place will be coming.
