Amazon is in the production stage of creating a show that will highlight some of the best NHLers’…drive to win.

The National Hockey League announced on Thursday that Prime Video is currently filming and editing a new series that will follow some of the game’s brightest stars on and off the ice.

NHL Productions is partnering with Box To Box Films–the producers of the critically acclaimed Netflix series “Drive to Survive” and “Full Swing”–to give unrivaled access to the day-to-day life of playing in the NHL.

“We want to stay true to the world of ice hockey with the series,” Paul Martin, Co-founder of Box To Box Films and Executive Producer., said in a release. “The sport is as beautiful, skillful and graceful, as it is brutal, pressurized and powerful; and we aim to balance the energetic and fast-paced action leading up to the Stanley Cup Final, with the quiet and raw drama taking place off the ice.”

The league is hoping they can build off the hype from the hit series that follows Formula 1, which has been around since 2018. The series is arguably one of the reasons for the sharp rise in popularity of F1 in North America.

“This is so meaningful for our league. Box To Box has revolutionized modern storytelling for Formula 1, golf, and tennis,” said NHL Chief Content Officer Steve Mayer. “With the full support of the League, players, coaches and owners, we welcome the opportunity to showcase our stars and the greatest season and postseason in sports – the Stanley Cup Playoffs – to a global audience.”

The untitled project will follow players throughout the 2023-24 season, featuring in-depth interviews with stars such as Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers), Matthew Tkachuk (Florida Panthers), William Nylander (Toronto Maple Leafs), David Pastrnak and Jeremy Swayman (Boston Bruins), Jack Eichel (Vegas Golden Knights), Quinn Hughes (Vancouver Canucks), Filip Forsberg (Nashville Predators) and Gabriel Landeskog (Colorado Avalanche).

It will be interesting to see what comes out of the footage from the Avalanche’s captain. Landeskog has not played since Colorado captured Lord Stanley’s Cup in 2022.

The announcement of the docuseries further highlights the NHL’s relationship with Prime Video. In April, the league revealed that Prime Video Canada will be the home of NHL’s Monday night games. Also, the Seattle Kraken landed a deal to stream its games on Prime, starting next season.

This will also be the fourth original hockey program put out by Amazon. All or Nothing: The Toronto Maple Leafs followed the team during the 2021 season. Prime Video has also released popular documentaries Chosen One: Alexandre Daigle and Saving Sakic.

The series does not have an official release date, but is expected to be available to stream in the fall.
