The Edmonton Oilers will be down a man for the majority of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Oilers forward Warren Foegele received a five-minute major and game misconduct for a knee-on-knee hit on Panthers forward Eetu Luostarinen less than 10 minutes into the opening period on Monday.

Foegele caught Luostarinen with his left knee as the Panthers forward attempted to avoid a hit in the offensive zone. Luostarinen remained down on the ice before eventually getting to his feet and being helped to the locker room.

Luostarinen would return to the bench later in the period.

Per rule 55.5 of the NHL Rulebook, “when a player has been assessed a major penalty for kneeing he shall also be assessed a Game Misconduct.”

Foegele played just 1:54 in Game 2 before seeing his night come to an early end. He has one goal and two assists for the Oilers this post-season.

The Panthers were unable to capitalize on the five-minute major and instead gave up a four-on-four goal after defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson took a tripping penalty early in the five-minute major.

You can watch the remainder of Game 2 live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
