After a chippy Game 2, the NHL has dished out its first fine of the Stanley Cup Final.
Edmonton Oilers forward Sam Carrick was fined $2,213.54, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for slashing Florida Panthers’ Dmitry Kulikov, the league announced Tuesday.
Carrick slashed Kulikov between the legs at the tail end of the third period after Kulikov landed a hard hit. The forward was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for slashing, served by teammate Evander Kane, and a 10-minute game misconduct.
Carrick, 32, was acquired by the Oilers at the trade deadline from the Anaheim Ducks, but did not play Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final. In 10 post-season games this year, Carrick has one assist and a minus-1.
In 16 regular-season games for Edmonton, Carrick has two goals and three assists and averaged 10:40 TOI.
Game 3 shifts to Edmonton on Thursday with the Oilers looking to notch their first win of the series. Watch all the action on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 8 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. MT.
