Sergei Bobrovsky is reading the Oilers’ power play exceptionally well

Whenever you see a Stanley Cup Champion, you will typically find a solid backstop.

With just one win sitting between the Florida Panthers and the franchise’s first championship, a lot of the team’s success has come from goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who has been sensational throughout the playoffs, especially in the first three games against the Edmonton Oilers.

Following the Panthers’ 4-3 win in Game 3 to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series, the Vezina Trophy candidate has allowed just four goals in the series, posting a .955 save percentage against the Oilers. He is 15-5 with a 2.07 goals-against average and a .916 SV% in these playoffs, with two shutouts.

One of the biggest parts of the game where Bobrovsky has excelled has been when his team is shorthanded, reading and anticipating what the Oilers’ top weapons, such as Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, are going to do on the power play. His quickness has become his trademark over his career, but his ability to think one or two plays ahead has made him elite, and the reason he is in the running to win the Vezina Trophy for the second time in his career.

So far, Edmonton is 0-for-10 on the man advantage in the final.

During the Coaches Room segment on Friday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Jon Goyes explained to Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk what Bobrovsky is doing so well.

Jon Goyens: [Bobrovsky deserves a ton [of credit]. [The Oilers] came out firing [on the PP]…they were firing the biscuit, but who was there to task…[Bobrovsky] comes across the crease and makes [saves] with his chest. He gets across so quickly, it hits him in the chest. His reading of the play is unbelievable.
