Going into the game with 38 points, the Oilers’ captain assisted forward Zach Hyman’s power play goal two minutes into the second period to make it 2-0 Oilers. A few minutes later, he reached the 40-point mark when he beat Panthers’ netminder Sergei Bobrovsky short-side to give Edmonton a 3-0 lead.

McDavid’s offense did not stop there. After Florida made it 3-1, the Oilers were on the power play when McDavid carried the puck into the Panthers’ zone, deked around several Florida skaters and made a cross-crease pass to Corey Perry to make it 4-1

As of the five-minute mark of the second period in Game 5, McDavid has scored nine points in his last six periods, dating back to the third period in Game 3.

The 2023-24 season was already a historic one for the Oilers’ captain, who became just the fourth player in NHL history to record 100 assists in a single season. It was the fourth time he led the league in assists. He finished the regular season with 32 goals and 132 total points, the second-highest mark of his career.

This current playoff campaign has seen the highest production of McDavid’s career. With a goal on top of his three assists, McDavid has seven goals and 34 assists for 41 points, eight more points than what he recorded in the 2022 post-season.
