The Florida Panthers are feeling pressure in the Stanley Cup Final. In Game 6, they thought they scored a much-needed goal. Florida had suffered through a rough start to this crucial contest in the Final. In fact, they managed just two shots on goal before this goal. Additionally, the Edmonton Oilers had just taken a 2-0 lead. However, Florida’s goal was overturned after video review. And head coach Paul Maurice was certainly not happy.

The Edmonton crowd erupted after the goal was overturned. But the Panthers and Maurice certainly needed that goal. At the time of this writing, they now trail the Oilers 3-0 entering the second intermission. As the clock ticks away, so does their margin for error in the Stanley Cup Final.

Paul Maurice and the Panthers enjoyed a vastly successful start to the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. Florida won each of the first three games to bring themselves within a win of Lord Stanley’s Cup. However, things began to unravel in that Game 3 win for the Panthers. As of now, Florida has yet to get the train back on its tracks.

The Panthers were blown out in Game 4 by a score of 8-1. In Game 5, they went down 3-0 to Edmonton before staging a bit of a comeback. That said, Florida could not go all the way. The Panthers lost Game 5 in front of their home fans, setting up Friday night’s Game 6 in Edmonton.

The Panthers struggled in the first period on Friday night. They had trouble generating shots and putting pressure on Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner. And they gave Edmonton optimal scoring chances. Eventually, the hosting Oilers capitalized on one of those chances. Leon Draisaitl found Warren Foegele in the low slot for the first goal of the contest.

The Oilers took this 1-0 lead into the first intermission. In the second period, Edmonton did not need long at all to double their lead. Veteran forward Adam Henrique scored less than a minute into the middle frame. He gave his team a crucial 2-0 lead that almost came undone after Aleksander Barkov’s would-be goal a few seconds later. However, the goal was overturned. Florida watched as Zach Hyman scored later in the period on a breakaway to make it 3-0.
