Edmonton Oilers sign defenseman Cam Dineen to two-year contract 

On Friday, amidst the chaos of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft at the Sphere in Las Vegas, the Edmonton Oilers got a bit of business done. Right around the time they locked up goalie Calvin Pickard, the Oilers also signed 26-year-old defenseman Cam Dineen to a two-year contract.

The contract will be two-way and comes with a $775,000 average annual value and $325,000 guaranteed. Dineen will make $275,000 in the American Hockey League during his first season. He will become an unrestricted free agent in 2026. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Dineen previously signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Oilers for the 2023-24 season. He was acquired along with forward Nick Bjugstad in a trade with the Arizona Coyotes for a 2023 third-round pick and defenseman Michael Kesselring on March 2, 2023.

Dineen has played most of his six-year professional career in the AHL. In 284 career AHL regular-season games, the Toms River, New Jersey native has recorded 127 points (25 goals, 102 assists), eight power-play goals and a minus-33 rating. He has spent seven seasons in the AHL with both the Tucson Roadrunners and Bakersfield Condors.

In 2023-24, he played 58 games with the Condors, finishing with 25 points (five goals, 20 assists). He was minus-1 in two Calder Cup Playoff games and has one assist in five career AHL playoff games.

In the NHL, Dineen dipped his toes in with the Arizona Coyotes during the 2021-22 season. He made his NHL debut on Nov. 5, 2021 against the Anaheim Ducks. In 34 NHL games, the 5-foot-11 defender tallied seven assists and finished with a minus-16 rating. He has yet to play a Stanley Cup Playoff game.

Dineen was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the third round (No. 68) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
