Stanley Cup champion. Hart Trophy winner. Olympic gold medalist. WWE superstar?

Corey Perry has done it all, but you can add a cameo on WWE’s Smackdown to the list after he made an appearance during a live show Friday night at Rogers Place, home of the Edmonton Oilers.

The 39-year-old winger got involved during a triple-threat match between Canadian wrestler Kevin Owens and the A-Town Down Under duo of Grayson Waller and Austin Theory. As Owens was introduced, the camera showed Perry and his son, Griffin, sitting ringside with the Edmonton faithful cheering them on.

When Owens’ opponents were introduced, Waller was wearing a Florida Panthers’ Matthew Tkachuk jersey as he made his way to the ring, an ode to last spring’s Stanley Cup Final when the Panthers defeated the Oilers in seven games to win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

The match would begin, and during its first commercial break, Owens would lay thunderous chops on Theory, eventually dragging him to where Perry was sitting ringside. Owens asked Perry for his help, and Perry would hold Theory’s arms back, giving Owens a free shot for another painful chop. The two would high five and the match would continue in the ring.

Owens would go on to hit Theory with a stunner and pin him to win the match.

It’s not the first time a professional athlete from one of North America’s four major leagues got involved with professional wrestling. NBA Hall of Fame forward Dennis Rodman was famously a member of World Championship Wrestling (WCW)’s New World Order, or the NWO.

As a member of the Chicago Bulls during the late ’90s chunk of their dynasty, Rodman once skipped practice before Game 4 of the NBA Finals to appear on WCW Monday Night Nitro, where he helped Hollywood Hulk Hogan attack Diamond Dallas Page.
