The Calgary Flames signed defenseman Tyson Barrie to a professional tryout, the team announced Tuesday.

Barrie tallied one goal and 15 points in 41 games in 2023-24 with the Nashville Predators. The 33-year-old played only one contest in the first round against the Vancouver Canucks and recorded an assist.

The Predators reportedly gave Barrie permission to talk to other teams last season to facilitate a trade, but the right-shot defenseman stayed in Nashville.

Barrie led all blue-liners in scoring in 2020-21 with the Edmonton Oilers, accumulating 48 points in 56 contests. He recorded 10 goals and 43 points in 61 games with the Oilers in 2022-23 before Edmonton traded him to Nashville during the campaign as part of the Mattias Ekholm deal.

The British Columbia native struggled to find the same level of offense with the Predators, totaling four goals and 27 points in 65 games over parts of two seasons.

Barrie is coming off of a three-year contract signed in 2021 with the Oilers that had a cap hit of $4.5 million.

The Flames' depth chart features Rasmus Andersson, Daniil Miromanov, and Brayden Pachal on the right side. MacKenzie Weegar, a right-handed shot who often plays on the left, is also an option to move to his strong side.

Calgary inked veteran defenseman Jarred Tinordi to a one-year, two-way contract Tuesday. Tinordi had nine points and 64 penalty minutes in 52 games last season with the Chicago Blackhawks and was a minus-27. The 32-year-old will cost $800,000 against the cap if he's on the NHL roster.
