The Carolina Hurricanes have signed veteran forward Sam Gagner, forward Rocco Grimaldi and Skyler Brind’Amour to player tryout agreements (PTO).

Gagner spent the 2023-24 campaign with the Edmonton Oilers where he racked up five goals and five assists in 28 regular season games, with his last goal coming back on Jan. 20 against the Calgary Flames.

Gagner was originally drafted sixth overall by the Oilers in the 2007 NHL Draft after a spectacular junior season with the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) London Knights, where he tallied 35 goals and 83 assists for 118 points. Gagner made the Oilers as an 18-year-old and tallied 13 goals and 36 assists for 49 points in his rookie season.

From 2014-2018 Gagner played on four different teams the Arizona Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets and the Vancouver Canucks. During that time, he scored a career-high 18 goals and 50 points with the Blue Jackets during the 2016-17 campaign.

Throughout 1,043 regular season games, Gagner has racked up 197 goals and 332 assists for 529 points. He has tallied four assists in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.

Grimaldi spent the 2023-24 season with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves where he racked up 36 goals and 37 assists for 73 points in 72 games, finishing second leaguewide. The 31-year-old last played in the NHL in the 2021-22 season with the Nashville Predators where he tallied three assists in seven games. The 5-foot-6 forward has appeared in 203 NHL games, racking up 30 goals and 37 assists for 67 points with the Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche and Nashville.

Brind’Amour, the son of head coach Rod, spent the 2023-24 season with the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate the Charlotte Checkers, racking up eight points in 54 games.
