The Edmonton Oilers are bringing in veteran winger Mike Hoffman on a professional tryout, the team announced Wednesday.
Hoffman tallied 10 goals and 13 assists in 66 games with the San Jose Sharks last season, averaging 13:44 per contest. His underlying numbers have been poor in recent years.
The 34-year-old sharpshooter scored 20 goals in six consecutive campaigns from 2014-20, potting a career-high 36 in 2018-19. He's scored 228 goals in 745 career contests for an average of 25.4 per 82 games.
Hoffman will compete for a job in Edmonton's bottom-six forward group. The Oilers currently have 13 forwards under contract, but that includes Evander Kane, who's expected to miss the start of the season.
The Kitchener, Ontario, native was drafted in the fifth round by the Ottawa Senators in 2009 and spent the first seven seasons of his NHL career in Canada's capital. Hoffman's also played for the Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, and Sharks.
