The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenceman Travis Dermott to a one-year, two way deal worth $775K, the team announced Tuesday.

The Oilers also placed Evander Kane on the LTIR due to his abdominal injury. The forward underwent successful surgery on Sept. 23 and is expected to miss five to six months.

Kane’s move to the LTIR opened up $5.125 million in pool space for the Oilers, and the team subsequently loaned forwards Matt Savoie and Cameron Wright to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.

Dermott signed a PTO with the club prior to training camp, and joins the Oilers after spending last season with the Arizona Coyotes, where he skated in 50 games while recording a pair of goals and five assists.

Prior to his time in the desert, the six-foot blueliner spent parts of two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Originally selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft (34th overall), Dermott saw action in 251 games over parts of five seasons with Toronto, tallying 12 goals, 40 assists and 100 penalty minutes.

Dermott has recorded 16 goals and 46 assists for 62 points, as well as 128 penalty minutes in 329 career games.
