It must be starting to feel like déja vu all over again for Raphaël Lavoie.
In a move that conjured images of the Bill Murray movie Groundhog Day, where the main character lives the same day over and over again, the 24-year-old Lavoie found himself back on the NHL waiver wire on Thursday, placed there by the Edmonton Oilers. Again.
The move came one day after the Oilers claimed Lavoie off waivers from the Vegas Golden Knights, and three days after the Oilers placed him on waivers the previous time … only to lose him to the Knights.
Edmonton re-signed Lavoie to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 in July and was trying to get cap compliant head of the season when it risked the forward getting claimed on Monday. The Oilers have got him back, but could lose him again.
The 24-year-old from Chambly, Que., spent the majority of last season with the Oilers’ AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, and registered 28 goals and 50 points in 66 games.
Lavoie also made his NHL debut and suited up for seven games with Edmonton.
