Golden Knights claim Lavoie off waivers from Oilers yet again

The Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights apparently both want Rafael Lavoie, but it finally appears the latter team will win out.

The Golden Knights claimed the 24-year-old off waivers from the Oilers on Friday for the second time this week.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports no other team put in a claim for Lavoie, meaning Vegas can assign him to AHL Henderson.

The Golden Knights first claimed Lavoie off waivers Monday, one day after the Oilers placed him on the waiver wire.

On Wednesday, the Oilers reclaimed Lavoie off waivers, one day after being put there by the Golden Knights.

After the Oilers put him on waivers again Thursday to try to get Lavoie to AHL Bakersfield, Friday represented an exact repeat of the scenario from earlier this week.

Edmonton re-signed Lavoie to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 in July and was trying to get cap compliant ahead of the season when it risked the forward getting claimed on Monday.

The 24-year-old from Chambly, Que., spent the majority of last season with the Oilers’ AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, and registered 28 goals and 50 points in 66 games.

Lavoie also made his NHL debut and suited up for seven games with Edmonton.
