The Colorado Avalanche added goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights reclaimed Raphael Lavoie from the Edmonton Oilers and assigned him to the AHL's Henderson Silver Knights.
Kahkonen, 28, posted a .898 save percentage in 37 games last season with the San Jose Sharks and New Jersey Devils. He went 7-24-3 on the campaign.
The Jets signed Kahkonen to a one-year, $1-million contract on July 1. He lost the backup job to Eric Comrie.
The Avalanche have goaltenders Alexandar Georgiev and Justus Annunen on their roster. Georgiev allowed five goals on 16 shots in Colorado's season opener on Wednesday and was pulled after the second period. Annunen made two saves on four shots in relief.
Georgiev, Annunen, and Kahkonen would all require waivers to be sent to the minors.
Lavoie, 24, ends his carousel ride between the Oilers and Golden Knights. He had been waived and claimed three times since Sunday.
After claiming Lavoie on Monday from Edmonton, Vegas waived Lavoie the following day. The Oilers reclaimed Lavoie on Thursday, but a team that was lower in waiver priority also placed a claim on the forward, meaning he couldn't be assigned to the AHL without being placed on waivers again.
The Golden Knights were able to send Lavoie to the minors without waivers on Friday, as they were the only team to place a claim on Lavoie and previously had him on their NHL roster this season. If this was Vegas' first time claiming Lavoie, he would require waivers to be sent down.
Drafted 38th overall in 2019, Lavoie played seven games with Edmonton last season and didn't register a point. He tallied 28 goals and 50 points in 66 AHL contests.
