The NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off is just four months away and will be the first platform for international best-on-best hockey since the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. With the jerseys for Canada, U.S., Sweden and Finland being introduced Thursday, the excitement for the upcoming tournament is ramping up.
During a reporter scrum in the Edmonton Oilers’ locker room on Thursday, someone asked captain Connor McDavid, who was one of the six players initial players named to the roster, who should be the captain of Team Canada.
Connor McDavid believes Sidney Crosby should be the captain of Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off.

“Should be Sid,” McDavid said. “Should be Sid. That’s not even a question.”
The lack of hesitancy on McDavid’s behalf is a testament to the level of respect he and his peers hold for the Pittsburgh Penguins’ superstar, who was the captain of both the 2016 World Cup squad and the 2014 Winter Olympic team in Sochi, Russia.
McDavid, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, played for Team North America at the 2016 World Cup with Team North America, recording three assists in three games. Representing Team Canada, McDavid has won gold multiple times, wining at the 2016 World Championships and both the 2013 and 2015 World Junior Championships.
As for Crosby, he has played for Canada on a number of occasions, including twice at the Winter Olympics – 2010 and 2014 – most notably scoring the overtime-winning goal in 2010.
Crosby also represented Canada twice at the World Juniors, including the historic 2005 gold medal-winning team that fielded a number of NHL stars, including Shea Weber, Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, Dion Phaneuf, Brent Seabrook, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards.
