The Montreal Canadiens are talking to teams about adding a forward with edge, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday's edition of "32 Thoughts."
Juraj Slafkovsky leads the Canadiens with 22 hits this season despite missing Montreal's last game due to injury. Depth forwards Emil Heineman and Jake Evans are the only other players on the team with more than 15 hits through seven games.
Michael Pezzetta led Montreal in hits last season with 242, while Josh Anderson ranked second with 169. Slafkovsky tallied 152 and was the only other forward with more than 100.
The Canadiens are reportedly also examining prices around the league for a top-four, right-handed defenseman.
Montreal told teams it won't make any moves that interfere with its long-term roster plans, Friedman adds.
The Canadiens have $6.5 million of cap space, according to PuckPedia.
