Blues' Holloway in stable condition after being hit in throat by puck

St. Louis Blues forward Dylan Holloway is alert and in stable condition after taking a puck to the throat during Tuesday's contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the team announced.

Holloway was taken to an area hospital after blocking a shot from Nick Paul up high. He was initially able to continue his shift but was in distress as he got to the bench.

The stretcher then arrived to remove Holloway from the contest as players from both teams gathered around.

Officials sent the Blues and Lightning to their respective rooms with 1:11 remaining in the frame for an early intermission.

Holloway's airway is open and unobstructed, and there's no swelling around his neck, sources told Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.

The 23-year-old came into the game with four goals and six points in 12 outings this season.

The Blues scooped up both Holloway and defenseman Philip Broberg from the Oilers this past offseason after Edmonton declined to match their offer sheets.

Broberg is expected to miss four-to-six weeks with an apparent leg injury.
