Canadiens acquire Noel Hoefenmayer from Oilers in exchange for Jacob Perreault

A little minor trade to ramp up a Friday afternoon in the hockey world.

The Montreal Canadiens announced that they have acquired defenseman Noel Hoefenmayer from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Jacob Perreault.

Hoefenamyer has tallied seven points in 11 games this season with the Oilers’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the Bakersfield Condors. During the 2023-24 campaign, he tallied seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points in 47 games.

Hoefemanyer signed his entry-level contract in 2023 with Edmonton. Hoefenmayer completed his first AHL season during the 2022-23 season, scoring 11 goals, 38 points and 114 penalty minutes in 65 games with the Toronto Marlies. He had 40 points in 46 ECHL games the year before, and has 47 points in 91 AHL games overall, all with the Marlies.

Meanwhile, Perreault has tallied five points in five ECHL games with the Trois-Rivieres Lions. The Montreal, Quebec native has also appeared in six AHL games this season with the Laval Rocket, going pointless.

The Canadiens acquired Perreault from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for center Jan Mysak last season. Perreault is the son of former Habs center Yanic Perreault and the older brother of New York Rangers prospect Gabe Perreault.

Perreault previously made his NHL debut during the 2021-22 season but ever since, even dealing with injuries that have limited him to just 79 games over the past two years with the San Diego Gulls.
