Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane had knee surgery on Thursday and is expected to require four to eight weeks of recovery time, the team announced on Friday.
Kane has been sidelined the entire season while recovering from surgery to repair both abductors, two hernias and two abdominal tears. The team said the knee injury is unrelated, but it will require him to pause his current rehabilitation schedule to recover from the operation.
The 33-year-old recorded 44 points (24 goals and 20 assists) in 77 games during the regular season and added eight points (four goals and four assists) in 20 playoff games last season. However, Kane was sidelined during the Stanley Cup Final with injuries.
