Adrian Kempe woke up to a slightly lighter wallet on Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Kings forward has received a $5,000 fine for slew-footing Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid during their game on Monday, the NHL’s department of player safety announced.

The $5,000 fine is the maximum amount allowed under the league’s collective bargaining agreement.

The incident occurred at the 8:30 mark of the third period as the two players were fighting for control of the puck along the boards. Kempe stuck his stick between McDavid’s legs, bringing the Oilers forward down to the ice.

There was no penalty called on the play.

Kempe, 28, has been a steady contributor for the Kings this season, tallying 20 goals and 19 assists through 41 games.

Los Angeles has a 24-12-5 record, good for third in the Pacific division and one spot behind Edmonton.
