There’s a new goalie in Oil Country.
The Edmonton Oilers signed Samuel Jonsson to a three-year, entry-level contract on Saturday, the team announced.
Jonsson was drafted by the team in the fifth round of the 2022 NHL draft. The six-foot-five Swedish netminder was named the 2024-25 HockeyAllsvenskan Goalie of the Year.
In 24 games this season with Bik Karlskoga, the 21-year-old went 17-6 with a 1.88 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage while recording six shutouts. His shutout total and GAA were league-bests.
Jonsson posted a 2.15 GAA and .913 save percentage in five playoff contests.
