The Edmonton Oilers have added some offence to their blue line.
Finnish defenceman Atro Leppänen signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the Oilers for next season, the team announced on Sunday.
Leppänen, 26, played 60 games this season with Vaasan Sport in Finland’s Liiga, where he scored 21 goals and broke the league record for points by a defenceman with 63.
His 42 assists were tops among all defenders while his 21 goals ranked second.
The six-foot, 183-pound Leppanen also added three assists in eight post-season contests.
Over two seasons in Finland’s top league, the left-shot Leppänen scored 33 goals and added 58 helpers over 115 games.
