Tensions are at an all-time high between the Edmonton Oilers and LA Kings ahead of their first-round clash in the 2025 playoffs. On Tuesday, the Oilers made a stunning comment from their official social media account—and fans are convinced the admin forgot to switch to his personal account.
The Oilers and Kings have faced off in the first round of the playoffs for the past three seasons. Later this week, it’s time for Round 4. The rivalry has grown intense thanks to these repeated postseason matchups, and for a while now, it’s felt inevitable they’d meet again in 2025. Fans couldn’t be more hyped—especially after what just happened.
When the teams played on Monday, Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse was ejected for cross-checking Kings forward Quinton Byfield in the back of the head while both were down on the ice. Byfield missed the third period of the Kings’ 5-0 win, adding even more fuel to the fire ahead of “Round 4.”
After the game, Kings forward Phillip Danault made some harsh remarks, suggesting the Oilers had only one goal in mind.
“I think they just have their B squad in trying to hurt us,” he said.
Danault’s comments quickly made waves around the league, and the video of the interview went viral. Then came a surprising reaction from the Edmonton Oilers.
On an Instagram post from the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast featuring the interview, the Oilers’ official account dropped a single comment: a clown emoji. According to a Reddit post, the comment racked up more than 600 likes before it was deleted.
Fans on social media are certain the team’s admin accidentally posted it from the official account.
“Intentional or not, that’s funny af. This will be the best Oilers vs Kings series yet,” one fan said.
“Man, I’m actually stoked for this series now lol,” said another.
“This series is gonna be tassstyyyyy,” added a third.
“That’s unreal lmao,” a fourth chimed in.
