Oilers’ Connor McDavid moves into tie for third most 100-point seasons

Once again Connor McDavid has put his name on an elite list.

The Edmonton Oilers captain notched 100 points for the eighth time in his 10-year career to move into a tie with Marcel Dionne for the third-most seasons eclipsing the century mark. Only Wayne Gretzky (15) and Mario Lemieux (10) did it more times.

McDavid picked up the milestone with an assist on Ty Emberson’s first-period goal against the San Jose Sharks. It is his fifth straight 100-point season, a feat only 13 others have accomplished and something that hasn’t been done since Steve Yzerman’s six-year run from 1987-1993.

Gretzky also holds the record in this category with 15 consecutive century seasons. Behind him with 10 is Lemieux, while Mike Bossy and Peter Stastny did it seven years in a row each.

McDavid has played in 67 games this season after missing some time down the stretch with a lower-body injury and has scored 26 goals while tallying 74 assists.

Teammate Leon Draisaitl, who finished this season with 106 points, has surpassed 100 six times in his career, and has done so for the past four seasons.

The two Oilers stars will soon turn their attention to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as they are set for an opening-round matchup with the Los Angeles Kings.
