Knights' Roy to have hearing for cross-checking Oilers' Frederic

Vegas Golden Knights center Nicolas Roy will have a hearing for cross-checking Edmonton Oilers forward Trent Frederic during Thursday's Game 2, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced Friday.

Roy was handed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for striking Frederic in the face with the two making a play for the puck in the early stages of overtime. Frederic left the ice but later returned for one shift during the Oilers' 5-4 victory.

Roy has never been suspended through 369 career regular-season games and 76 playoff outings.

The 28-year-old has chipped in with one goal and three points in eight playoff games so far this spring.

Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy was fuming at an unpenalized play after his club's Game 2 loss. Vegas killed off the five-minute penalty to Roy, but defenseman Brayden McNabb was injured by Oilers forward Viktor Arvidsson right before Leon Draisaitl's overtime winner.

Vegas will try to get on the board in the second-round series during Game 3, which goes Saturday at 9 p.m. ET in Edmonton.
