Golden Knights’ Roy fined for cross-check on Oilers’ Frederic

Nicolas Roy‘s wallet just took a hit.

The Vegas Golden Knights forward was fined $7,812.50, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for cross-checking Edmonton Oilers forward Trent Frederic during overtime of Game 2 on Thursday, the league announced Friday.

Roy was assessed a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct on the play that occurred about five minutes into the extra frame.

Roy and Frederic were battling for the puck along the boards, and as the puck briefly flew in the air, Roy made a motion with his stick towards it, but made contact with Frederic’s face instead.

The Oilers winger immediately went down on the ice, bleeding visibly, but remained in the game. Edmonton did not score on the ensuing power play.

Roy, 28, played 71 games for Vegas this season, recording 15 goals and 16 assists. He’s added one goal and two assists in eight playoff games.

Game 3 of the series is set for Saturday in Edmonton with the Oilers leading 2-0. Watch the game live at 9:30 p.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. MT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
