Oilers’ Zach Hyman won’t play Game 5 against Stars, unlikely to return in series

Edmonton Oilers’ forward Zach Hyman won’t play in Game 5 of their Western Conference Final series against the Dallas Stars on Thursday, according to Daily Faceoff’s Jason Gregor, adding that it is unlikely he returns in this series.

Hyman won’t play in Game 5 tomorrow. Still waiting to see if he’ll return later in the playoffs. Sounds like it is unlikely he returns this series.

Hyman’s injury likely occurred midway through the first period after taking a hit from Stars’ forward Mason Marchment. Skating through the neutral zone, Marchment awkwardly caught Hyman on the right shoulder, forcing the winger to head to the bench and straight to the locker room.

Hyman would not return to the game, finishing with just 3:11 of ice time, one shot and two hits.

The 32-year-old Hyman has five goals and six assists for 11 points in 14 games through the first three rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Daily Faceoff’s Matt Larkin shared an interesting stat on Monday: Hyman’s career high in hits over an 82-game season is 117. However, going into Tuesday’s contest against Dallas, Hyman recorded 109 hits in the 14 playoff games Edmonton has played this spring.

The 2024-25 regular season saw Hyman score 27 goals and 17 assists for 44 points in 73 games, a step back from the 54-goal, 77-point campaign he posted in 2023-24. In 10 NHL seasons, Hyman has recorded 230 goals and 213 assists for 443 points in 653 career regular-season games with the Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Hyman has also appeared in 100 Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring 40 goals and 33 assists for 73 points. In 2024, the Toronto native scored a league-leading 16 goals in 25 playoff games.
