Pending UFA Jamie Benn wants to remain with Stars

Though he’s currently without a contract for 2025-26, Jamie Benn knows exactly where he wants to play next season.

The Dallas Stars captain is about to be an unrestricted free agent, but he won’t be leaving the Lone Star State if things go his way.

“I’m going into the summer planning on playing next year,” the 36-year-old veteran said at the Stars’ end-of-season media availability on Saturday. “… I don’t see myself going anywhere else. This is all I know. So hopefully we can get something figured out and then I don’t have to answer these questions.”

Benn has spent his entire 16-year career with the Stars.

This season ended with a third straight loss in the Western Conference Final.

“Three years in a row now, you get that close and you come up short … obviously not a good feeling,” said Benn after Thursday’s season-ending loss to the Edmonton Oilers in Game 5.

Benn finished the post-season with one goal and two assists in 18 playoff games. He added 16 goals and 33 assists in 80 games during the regular season.

“I think it would be a crime if he’s not a Dallas Star for life,” Stars forward Matt Duchene said of Benn on Saturday.
