Oilers sign Roby Jarventie to one-year deal

On Tuesday, the Edmonton Oilers announced that the team has signed forward Roby Jarventie to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2025-26 season.

According to PuckPedia, Jarventie’s NHL cap hit is $775,000, with a minor-league salary of $125,000. Jarventie’s contract has a guaranteed salary of $200,000.

The 2024-25 season was a hard one for Jarventie. A knee injury kept him out of action to start the year. However, when he returned to action in November with the Oilers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, he re-injured his knee, knocking him out for the rest of the season.

The decision to re-sign with Edmonton caught some people off guard, as Finnish media outlet Ilta-Sanomat announced back in March that Jarventie was going to play for Liiga squad Tappara Tampere next season.

In a little over four years in North America, the 22-year-old has spent most of his time in the AHL. His best season came in 2021-22 with the Belleville Senators, the Ottawa Senators’ primary affiliate, where he scored 33 points in 70 games. Jarventie made his NHL debut during the 2023-24 campaign, appearing in seven games with Ottawa, registering an assist.

Jarventie spent parts of four seasons playing in the Senators organization, the team that drafted him in the second round, 33rd overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft. He was dealt to the Oilers last July in the trade that saw Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson go back to Ottawa.

In 138 AHL appearances, Jarventie has scored 38 goals and 50 assists for 58 points, potting a goal in two Calder Cup Playoff games.

Along with professional experience, the Tampere native won the bronze and silver medals at the 2021 and 2022 IIHF World Junior Championships, respectively.
