Don Cherry shares bold take on Oilers’ game 3 loss

Don Cherry is now 91 years old, but that hasn’t stopped him from sharing his opinions on the hockey world. Now, during the Stanley Cup Final, he’s offered a bold take on the Edmonton Oilers after Game 3.

Few people have seen as much hockey as the legendary Don Cherry. From playing in the 1950s and 1960s, he went on to successfully coach the Boston Bruins to two Stanley Cup Final appearances and led Team Canada to a Canada Cup gold medal in 1976.

For 37 years, Don Cherry was a studio analyst on Hockey Night in Canada before being fired in 2019. Since then, he has hosted his own podcast, Don Cherry’s Grapevine, where he shares his often bold takes on the NHL and everything surrounding it. Recently, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to offer a fearless opinion on the Edmonton Oilers’ loss to the Florida Panthers in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Don Cherry bold take on the Oilers

Cherry has always appreciated the physical side of the game, often arguing that fighting is an essential part of hockey. Game 3 featured no fewer than 140 penalty minutes—the third-most in a Stanley Cup Final game and the most since 1986—something Cherry seemed to enjoy. He even praised the Oilers, despite their 6–1 loss.
“It was a tough Game 3 for the Oilers, but at least they went down swinging,” he wrote on X.
Game 4 will be played on Thursday in Sunrise.
