Calvin Pickard shares what was said during goalie chirping

The Edmonton Oilers managed to push back against the Florida Panthers, winning Game Four in overtime after a Leon Draisaitl OT-winner. But before the puck dropped, three of the goaltenders were involved in a little pregame chirping contest. Afterwards, Calvin Pickard revealed what was said.

The Stanley Cup Final is getting more and more heated. With each game played between the teams, the rivalry continues to build. There are also several mini-battles between specific players, each doing everything they can to get under their opponent’s skin.

Pregame chirping

The goaltenders are no exception, as a video from last night clearly shows. During warmups, Panthers goaltender Vitek Vanecek could be seen standing at the red line. On the other side, Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner stood, and the two appeared to be exchanging words. Then, Oilers backup goalie Calvin Pickard skated over to join his teammate in the goalie chirping.

Calvin Pickard reveals what was said

During the game, Skinner was once again pulled and replaced by Pickard, who holds a 7-0 record in this year’s playoffs. In a postgame interview, Pickard was asked about the exchange at the red line before the game.
“Yeah, I was a little rusty — I haven’t chirped in a while. But I went over there because I saw a video of Stolarz doing it last year, and I thought, I gotta do something here. So I went over and said, ‘Let’s go stretch over there,’ but he said no, and I was like, ‘Alright, sounds good.’ But that doesn’t bother Skinner,” Pickard told reporters.
Game Five will be played on Saturday in Edmonton.
