Kings’ Corey Perry injured during pre-season skate

Corey Perry‘s status for the start of the season could be in question for the Los Angeles Kings.

The 40-year-old was injured in a Kings’ pre-season skate on Friday and is undergoing further medical evaluation, per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Initial reports of the injury came from Los Angeles-based MayorsManor.com, which said that Perry appeared to suffer the injury along the boards at the Kings’ practice facility in El Segundo. He was reportedly taken off the ice in a wheelchair.

Friedman adds that it’s unclear whether there will be an official update on his condition before camp starts.

Perry, one of the final active NHLers from the 2003 draft class, spent last season with the Edmonton Oilers, where he recorded his best numbers since 2021-22 with 19 goals and 11 assists for 30 points in 81 games.

He signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Kings as a free agent on July 1.
