Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl slammed after first game

Last night, Edmonton Oilers superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl played in their first preseason game — but the duo is now being slammed for their effort.

McDavid and Draisaitl made their season debut in a 4–1 loss to the Seattle Kraken. The superstars played on the same line alongside Trent Frederic.

”Doesn’t look very good”

During the game, the line combined for four shots on goal, no points, and a total of -9. Even though it was only the preseason, the star duo is facing criticism for their performance.
“Well, if you look at the stat line, it doesn’t look very good. But they spent a lot of time in the offensive zone,” Oilers head coach Chris Knoblauch told reporters after the game.

Connor McDavid and Draisaitl slammed

Sportsnet’s Mark Spector wrote the following about McDavid and Draisaitl:
“What ensued was a ‘how-to’ video for why the National Hockey League will be going down to four preseason games starting next September. Over-passing, over-skating, and inevitably, overcharging those brave fans who couldn’t resist a September night at an NHL rink, the Oilers were pedestrian at best in a low-event, 4–1 loss to the Seattle Kraken.”
On social media, fans were also unimpressed with the Oilers stars’ effort.
One fan jokingly wrote on X: “Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have been sentenced to Canucks timeout for being down 2–0 to the Kraken.”
Another added: “Connor McDavid and Draisaitl got bent over by the Kraken tonight.”
