Roberto Luongo has hilarious reaction to Connor McDavid’s new contract

Roberto Luongo had an amazing career — both internationally and in the NHL — where he played over 1,000 regular-season games. During and after his career, Luongo became known for his great sense of humor — and he hasn’t stopped. Roberto Luongo was selected fourth overall by the New York Islanders in the 1997 NHL Draft. However, he spent only one season with the Islanders before being traded to the Florida Panthers. In total, he played eleven seasons with the Panthers, though he also had an eight-year stint with the Vancouver Canucks between 2006 and 2014. Internationally, Luongo won two Olympic gold medals and two World Championship titles.

Luongo made a name for himself not only as an elite goaltender but also as a genuinely funny personality — especially on X. He has roasted teams like the Vegas Golden Knights for their previous use of the LTIR rule, among many others. And now, he’s done it again.
NHL teams located in so-called “no state tax” states have often been criticized for having an advantage in signing players, since those players don’t have to pay as much tax in those states.

Florida is frequently used as an example — something Luongo cleverly took advantage of yesterday.
On X, Luongo clapped back at those claiming that high-salaried players prefer to play for teams in no state tax states.
“No state tax strikes again!” Luongo wrote, quoting NHL insider Elliotte Friedman’s post about Connor McDavid’s extension with the Edmonton Oilers.
