The Vegas Golden Knights are signing star forward Jack Eichel to an eight-year contract extension with a $13.5-million cap hit, reports Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Eichel tallied 28 goals last season and set a Golden Knights franchise record with 94 points.
The 28-year-old was set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. He's in the final season of an eight-year, $80-million deal signed in October 2017 with the Buffalo Sabres.
Eichel's the latest big name to re-up in the last two weeks. Kirill Kaprizov inked an eight-year deal with the Minnesota Wild, which includes a record $17-million cap hit. Connor McDavid signed a surprisingly team-friendly two-year, $25-million pact Monday with the Edmonton Oilers. And Winnipeg Jets winger Kyle Connor penned an eight-year, $96-million extension earlier Wednesday.
Eichel has racked up 239 goals and 608 points over 10 seasons with the Sabres and Golden Knights.
