It was a night to forget for Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner.
Skinner was replaced by backup goaltender Calvin Pickard midway through the second period in Saturday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche.
The Oilers’ starter gave up four goals on 13 shots before getting the early hook.
Cale Makar started the damage for the Avs, with goals just over a minute apart in the first period. Gavin Brindley made it 3-0 early in the second before Jack Drury scored the fourth to chase Skinner.
Skinner was far from the Oilers’ only problem on Saturday, but head coach Kris Knoblauch was looking for something to spark his struggling club.
However, the move didn’t work the way Knoblauch was hoping for, as Pickard allowed a fifth goal just minutes after replacing Skinner in net to put the Oilers down 5-0.
Skinner came into Saturday’s game with a 2.54 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage in 10 games this season.
