Blue Jackets’ Mathieu Olivier ejected for boarding Canucks D Elias Pettersson

Matthieu Olivier will be watching the rest of his team’s tilt from the locker room on Saturday.

The Columbus Blue Jackets forward was handed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding Vancouver Canucks defenceman Elias Pettersson midway through the second period.

Olivier was hard on the forecheck when he finished Pettersson into the glass after the blueliner completed a reverse pass facing the boards behind his own net.

The six-foot-one power forward was originally sent to the penalty box for a two-minute infraction, but after review, officials deemed it was worthy of a game misconduct.

Pettersson went down the tunnel with the team’s training staff but returned to the contest towards the end of the middle frame for another shift.

The Canucks were unable to capitalize on the extended power play.

This is the second time in the last eight games that Olivier was ejected from a contest, as he was given an elbowing major on Oct. 25 in a clash with the Washington Capitals.

Despite his physical style of play, Olivier has never been suspended in his seven-year career.
