The Edmonton Oilers are struggling, and this weekend, they suffered a heavy defeat against the Colorado Avalanche, losing 9-1. Now, footage has emerged showing captain Connor McDavid calling out his teammates at practice.
The season has not started the way the Oilers had hoped. After back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances, Edmonton currently sits in 13th place in the Western Conference. Even though the season is still young, the Oilers need to turn things around after winning just one of their last five games.

On Saturday, the Oilers lost 9-1 to the Avalanche, one of their biggest rivals.
“This team’s been through tough times several times over the years, and they’ve always worked it out. Just because they’ve found a way to play better, step up—I think right now, the last couple of weeks, I’ve seen we’re just kind of waiting for that moment to happen. And I think tonight would be—I definitely hope this is—rock bottom for us. I hope this wakes up a lot of guys,” Oilers head coach Chris Knoblauch told NHL.com after the game.
On Sunday, footage from Oilers practice surfaced via Oilers insider Ryan Rishaug, showing a heated McDavid gesturing and shouting at his teammates during a drill. The video quickly went viral among Oilers fans.
When asked about what was said, McDavid responded:
“Everybody has more to bring, so you start seeing some of that in practice. It’s gotta translate into games. It’s normal to have conversations with guys about different things we’re seeing out there. The game has felt at times unorganized and out of sync, so the only way to work that stuff out is by talking and communicating with your teammates, and you’re going to start to see some of that,” McDavid said, according to Rishaug.
Next, the Oilers will face the Columbus Blue Jackets at home.
