Brandon Carlo will miss at least one more game.
The Toronto Maple Leafs placed the defenceman on injured reserve, retroactive to Nov. 13, on Monday.
In a corresponding move, the team recalled centre Jacob Quillan from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.
Carlo had been considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury, before being placed on IR. He missed his first game of the season Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
It is unclear what caused the injury.
Carlo was brought to Toronto at the trade deadline in February to play a shutdown role, and he has averaged just over 20 minutes of ice time per game this season, tallying two assists.
He won’t be able to return until Thursday when the Maple Leafs host the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Quillan, 23, made his NHL debut with the Maple Leafs last season, participating in one game.
He’s off to a hot start with the Marlies this season with 14 points (two goals, 12 assists) in 14 games.
The Maple Leafs return to action Tuesday at home against the similarly struggling St. Louis Blues.
