Brutal question from reporter to Stuart Skinner has fans talking

Stuart Skinner has been slammed for his performances this season. But now, an incredibly ruthless question from an Edmonton reporter has fans reacting.

The Edmonton Oilers have had a terrible start to the season, and they’re currently outside a playoff spot. And their goaltending is getting blamed.

Calvin Pickard has made nine appearances this season and has a 4.04 goals-against average (GAA), together with an .847 save percentage. Stuart Skinner has been better, but not by much. He’s got a 3.18 GAA and a .878 SV% in his 18 games, and the team’s SV% of .860 is the lowest they’ve had through 25 games since their inaugural season in 1979–1980.

Brutal question to Stuart Skinner

It’s not the first time Stuart Skinner has been under fire for weak performances, and it’s becoming more and more obvious that the Oilers need to do something about the situation. But on Thursday, one reporter might have taken the criticism a bit too far. Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal started off his interview by simply asking Skinner about his thoughts on his play this season.
“Personally, I’ve been doing my best to show up consistently,” Skinner said. “Results will say that it hasn’t gone our way, it hasn’t been very favorable, but that’s life, isn’t it?”

But then, Matheson decided to take things a bit further.
“The fans, every time they turn around, they want another goalie,” he said. “They don’t want you. That must hurt, or does it?”

Skinner responded calmly.
“That’s happened a lot here, no?” Skinner replied.
“It happens anywhere around the league. Goalies need to come up with big saves at big times. It’s just part of the game of being a goalie.”

On social media, many slammed the reporter for the brutal question.
”Who actually asks that!? I think the Oilers need better goalies but for a reporter to actually ask that, wow,” one said.
”Tough question… strong answer tbh, good on him,” another said.
”Insane question to ask,” a third added.
