Oilers’ Tristan Jarry leaves game with lower-body injury

It didn’t take long for the Edmonton Oilers to have goalie problems again, as Tristan Jarry has left Thursday’s game against the Boston Bruins with a lower-body injury.

Calvin Pickard has taken over the crease after Tristan Jarry left due to a lower-body injury, per the broadcast.

Jarry left the game late in the second period of the game, as he appeared to tweak something in his lower-body after stretching from post to post to make a save. Jarry was immediately swapped out for Calvin Pickard and has not returned to the game.

Jarry had stopped 12 of 13 shots for a .923 save percentage and a -0.13 goals saved above expected, with the Oilers up 2-1 at the time of his departure.

At this point in time, there’s no further update on the severity of Jarry’s injury, if he’s expected to miss more time, and if so, how long he’s expected to be out of the lineup. If the team is still unsure about his status after Thursday’s game, an update may be provided if the team practices on Friday, or ahead of Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Wild.

The injury comes not even a week after the Oilers acquired Jarry from the Pittsburgh Penguins, along with Samuel Poulin, in exchange for Stuart Skinner, Brett Kulak and a 2029 second-round pick. Jarry’s injury concerns were one of a few doubts about this trade when it happened, and those fears have come to fruition after only a few games.

The injury comes during what has been a bounce-back season for Jarry, who had an 11-3-1 record, a .905 save percentage, one shutout and 3.96 5v5 goals saved above expected entering Thursday’s game. He had a 2-0-0 record, an .879 SV% and 0 5v5 goals saved above expected in his first two games as an Oiler.

It’s unclear what the Oilers plan in goal will be should Jarry miss any time. Pickard has been the backup all season, but has struggled, so Edmonton may just deploy him and Jarry’s replacement in a tandem. Who would be Jarry’s replacement on the roster is also unknown, but the most likely candidate would be Connor Ingram, who the Oilers acquired from the Utah Mammoth at the start of the season.
