Oilers’ Noah Philp, Maple Leafs’ Marshall Rifai placed on waivers

Six NHL players landed on waivers on Sunday.

Forward Noah Philp has been placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers, the team announced on Sunday.

Philp, 27, has played 30 career NHL games with the Oilers over the last two seasons and has recorded two goals and three assists over that time. He was undrafted and signed as a free agent in Edmonton on April 1, 2022.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have also put defenceman Marshall Rifai on waivers, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports. The 27-year-old hasn’t appeared in an NHL game since the 2023-2024 season, when he played in two but didn’t record any points.

The Oilers also officially announced that David Tomasek has been put on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract, and the forward will return to Europe.

Tomasek was signed to a one-year deal by the Oilers on April 2 after completing the 2024-25 season with Färjestad BK of the SHL. He’s expected to return to Färjestad BK once cleared, according to European reports; he totalled 57 points in 47 games with them last season.

The 29-year-old appeared in 22 games with the Oilers, amassing just five points.

The Pittsburgh Penguins placed 30-year-old forward Danton Heinen on waivers. While the Utah Mammoth placed defenceman Juuso Välimäki and the New York Islanders also moved defenceman Ethan Bear to waivers.
