The Columbus Blue Jackets aren’t looking to start selling just yet, but if they do, the Edmonton Oilers might have their eye on someone

Hello Hockey: David Pagnotta on the Hello Hockey show with Tom Gazzola and Shawn Belle, talking about the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets aren’t ready to move pieces just yet, but one player who will get some interest is Boone Jenner, and the Edmonton Oilers might have their eye on him.

Belle: “And right now, one of the teams that’s linked to Columbus is, sorry to the Oilers, is the Columbus Blue Jackets. Have you heard anything about the Columbus Blue Jackets, potentially looking at moving some players out and having a link with the Oilers?”

Pagnotta: “Well, I mean, we’ve talked about this for a good chunk of the season, that Boone Jenner is going to be a target for a team like the Oilers. And he’d need to be a perfect fit for him, for them, excuse me, if they, if the Jackets get to a point where they’re going to try to move him. They’re not there yet.

You know, they’re pending UFAs, they’re going to talk in February and have a discussion to see who’s realistically going to be sticking around and who isn’t. They’d like to keep their captain, too. But they have a few other guys that are on expiring contracts, but Donnie Waddell, their GM, is going to take the Olympic break to figure out their contract situations with their pending guys, and then go from there.

And if they feel they can’t sign these guys, then there’s a chance, assuming they’re not directly in the wild card race, that, or even the Metro, that they’re going to look to move those guys after the Olympic break.

I don’t get the sense anything’s now. That doesn’t mean that Stan Bowman can’t call them and say, ‘Hey, we want to do this and this and this. What do you think?’ And it may tickle them a little bit, and go, ‘Okay, well, maybe we have to consider this now.’

But barring that, they’re going to wait, the Jackets are, until February, figure out their contractual status with those guys and then go from there.”
