The defending Stanley Cup champions look to book their ticket to the playoffs when they take on the Edmonton Oilers — but will need some help to do so.
If the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Oilers in regulation and the St. Louis Blues lose to the Chicago Blackhawks, they will officially clinch a playoff spot. Vegas can also clinch with a win in overtime or shootout and if St. Louis loses to Chicago in regulation.
Once they clinch their spot, the Golden Knights would have qualified for the playoffs in six of their first seven seasons since entering the league in 2017.
The Los Angeles Kings can make it to the playoffs without even playing Wednesday. The Kings would clinch their spot if the Blues lose to the Blackhawks in regulation.
Los Angeles will have clinched their third straight playoff appearance but have been eliminated in the first round in each of their last two seasons.
