Oilers recall goaltender Jack Campbell after AHL season ends

Originally posted on SportsNet

The Edmonton Oilers are getting some more reinforcements in the midst of their playoff run.

Joining the team will be some familiar faces, as defenceman Philip Broberg and goaltender Jack Campbell were recalled from the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors on Sunday as the Oilers prepare for Game 4 of their first-round series against the Los Angeles Kings, the team announced.

These moves coincide with the Condors officially being eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs after a 2-0 series loss to the Ontario Reign, coincidentally the Kings’ AHL affiliate.

Broberg, 22, has played 12 games with the Oilers this season, notching two assists and playing an average of 11:37 per game. He was with the team as recently as April 18 in a game against the Colorado Avalanche.

In 49 games with Bakersfield this season, he had five goals and 33 assists. He also had one assist over two games in the playoff series against the Reign.

Campbell, meanwhile, was sent down to the minors after a brutal start to the season with the Oilers. In five starts, he finished with a 1-4 record and a .873 save percentage. His last start with the Oilers came on Nov. 4 against the Nashville Predators.

He recaptured some of his form with Bakersfield, playing 33 games for the Condors this season while finishing with a .918 save percentage and 2.63 goals against average.

They’ll join an Oilers team up 2-1 on the Kings in the first round of the playoffs. Game 4 of their series starts at 10:30 p.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. PT on Sunday. You can watch it on Sportsnet or stream on Sportsnet+.
